Little Ben’s TV was created with a mission—to ensure children grow up seeing themselves as powerful, intelligent, and worthy of every opportunity the world has to offer.

Our Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from the groundbreaking Doll Test conducted by psychologists Dr. Kenneth and Mamie Clark in the 1940s.

The Doll Test Explained

Originally conducted by psychologists Dr. Kenneth and Mamie Clark in the 1940s. It was designed to study the effects of segregation and racism on the self-perception of Black children in the experiment, young Black children were presented with two dolls—one white and one Black—and were asked a series of questions:

• Which doll is the nice doll?

• Which doll is the bad doll?

• Which doll is pretty?

• Which doll looks like you?

Tragically, many of the children associated positive traits with the white doll and negative traits with the Black doll, revealing how deeply racist societal messaging had already influenced their self-esteem and identity.

This study was so powerful that it was later used as evidence in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case to prove how segregation harmed Black children.

Why This Matters

Decades later, the media children consume still plays a critical role in shaping their self-worth. When they rarely see themselves as heroes, leaders, or main characters—or only see people who look like them in negative or sidelined roles—they internalize a harmful message about their value in the world.

At Little Ben’s TV, we refuse to let outdated narratives define our children. Through engaging, empowering, and uplifting storytelling, we create a world where Black children see themselves as the main characters—bold, brilliant, and full of possibility.
